Redesign of the logotype of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades, a Greek state run organization managing the Greek Heritage of Cycladic Antiquities.
As we believe very much in the impotence of archaeology in the sense that nothing is created ex-nihilo but is in our view more a continuity, in our design approach we aimed to do a typical intervention in continuing the already existing logotype. The previous logotype was a historical depiction of the archetypical ‘Trireme’ (Ancient Greek: τριήρης), a vessel used by the ancient maritime civilizations of the Mediterranean. By use of a process of abstraction using the circle a guidance (Typical since we speak of the Cyclades) and preserving the constructional essences of the ‘Trireme’, a name that derives from the three rows of oars used in the vessel, a figure as abstract as concrete was appearing.
