Didotou Street
Didotou is and Athenian Street next to our headquarters. The Street took its name from Didot, the name of the internationally renowned group of typefaces referring and invented by the French philhellenic family of typographers, printers and publishers. The Didot family were among the first to set up a printing press in the newly independent Greece, and typefaces in the style of Didot have remained popular in Greece since.[1]
As, according to our knowledge, this is the only Athenian street that honors a typeface and is by ‘chance’ next door to our studio we have developed ‘Didotou Steet regular’. The basis of this stencil typeface crosses the typical aspects of the Didot typefaces with the modernist aura of the Didot alike stencils the architect Le Corbusier was using throughout his oeuvre. With the rigid, stoic and typical principals we hope we can give space to a reflection on the rich culturally charged Didotou street that does profoundly have a link with letters.
